The Question

Diaspora families are scattered across cities and continents, speaking different languages — grandparents, parents, and children often live far apart, and the stories and language that connect them can get lost across that distance.

Desired Ability

Grandparents should be able to pass down their voice, language, and stories to grandchildren who live somewhere else entirely — and kids should be able to grow up hearing the voice of their heritage.

Our Response

BabaGigi is a three-step storytelling platform: grandparents record voice stories in their native language, parents review and approve them, and children listen and respond by creating illustrated storybooks — which BabaGigi prints, binds, and ships as physical books, starting at $18.

Notes

BabaGigi supports storytelling across languages including Tagalog, Khmer, Spanish, Hindi, and Arabic. Full project narrative is being drafted — see How We Work for how we document projects as they progress.
